Week One: The Math, The Reality, and Why This Matters

Week One: The Math, The Reality, and Why This Matters

This week, I launched the Space Jack pre-launch page on Kickstarter.

Here is the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wolfybank/space-jack-pilot-episode-out-past-the-known?ref=40wbwo

That was the milestone.

Now comes the part no one really talks about.

Getting people to care.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the math behind all of this.

There’s this idea I keep coming back to—what I call the “rule of 10.”

It’s not exact, but it’s usually close enough to tell you the truth.

  • Out of 10 people who see something, maybe 1 clicks.
  • Out of 10 clicks, maybe 1 follows.
  • Out of 10 followers, maybe 1 actually backs a project.

So when you stack that…

To get 1 backer, you need around 1,000 people to see it.

That’s the part that changes everything.

Because if I want 100 backers…

That means I need something like 100,000 people to even see this.

And suddenly this isn’t just “post a video and see what happens.”

It’s a funnel. A machine. A grind. Ugh.

Where things stand right now

We’re on Day 3.

  • ~100 people have visited the Kickstarter page
  • 6 people have followed the project

That’s about a 5–6% interest rate, which honestly isn’t terrible.

But the top of the funnel…

That’s where things feel thin.

Here’s what I’ve done so far

  • Email blast
    1,300 sent
    ~15% open rate (~180 opens)
    12 clicks
  • YouTube
    ~3,300 views
  • Facebook
    ~4,600 views

And the result?

6 people following the project.

Yeah… it feels a little bleak when you look at it like that.

A slow start.

And then there’s the feedback

Some of it has been encouraging.

Some of it hasn’t.

I’ve gotten comments like:

  • “AI slop”
  • “Looks thrown together”
  • “Doesn’t explain enough”
  • Even one that said it looked like a scam

That one stuck with me more than I’d like to admit.

Not because I think it’s true—
but because I understand how it could come across that way to someone seeing it for the first time.

So here’s where I’m at

There’s a version of this where I keep tweaking, adjusting, trying to get approval from everyone before moving forward.

And then there’s another version…

Where I just commit to it.

Build it. Improve it. Let it evolve.

The reality is:

This is a big project.

Bigger than something I can quietly build in the background without support.

That’s why I went to Kickstarter.

Not to “cash in”—but to bring something to life that people actually want to see exist.

And this is the part that matters

If you’re reading this—

You’re not just a number in a funnel.

You’re part of whether this actually happens or not.

Not just by backing it…

…but by sharing it, talking about it, putting it in front of someone else who might connect with it.

Because that’s how this works.

Not algorithms alone.

People.

For now…

It’s Day 3.

6 people have raised their hand.

And I’m still here, still building, still pushing forward.

Let’s see where it goes.

Once again, if you want to follow the project:

If it resonates, share it with someone.

That matters more than you think.
